***A bit of Blog-keeping: Check out the new and (hopefully) better organized Blogroll tab. Also, it’s been updated since yesterday…I know I missed a couple of you!***
I’ll admit it – I’m really jealous of all the folks who got to attend Playhouse Square’s Jumpback Ball this past weekend. That’s right, Poise in Parma, Cleveland’s a Plum, Confessions of a Cohabitant, Clue Into Cleveland, CLE Shopaholic, and Happy in CLE…I’m looking at you! It’s on my must-do list for next year. But, the event got me thinking about a wonderful answer to “Why Cleveland?” The theater!
Playhouse Square is the country’s largest performing arts center outside New York City. From large-scale musicals like Shrek and Les Miserables to performances by the Great Lakes Theater Festival to comedians and concerts, Playhouse Square offers something for everyone. The theaters are beautiful landmarks – attending a show there is truly an event. I can remember attending performances of “A Christmas Carol” and “The Nutcracker” when I was young and being awed by the beauty and grandeur of the theaters. That never changed as an adult and subscriber to the Broadway Series. Playhouse Sqaure is a national performing arts landmark, right here in CLE. You owe it to yourself to check it out!
CLE also boasts a lot of other phenomenol places to attend theater performances…
The Cleveland Play House offers unique shows in a more intimate setting. It also boasts special events, such as Jazz Brunch and Fusion Fest.
Karamu House states that it’s mission is joyfully exposing people to multicultural arts, which it does through a series of unique and interesting plays.
Beck Center for the Performing Arts not only puts on theater productions, but also offers classes in art, dance, music, and theater.
The next time you’re looking for something to do in CLE, don’t pop in a DVD. Head out to the theater and experience some of the world-class art that CLE has to offer!
